Tibialis anterior

  • The tibialis anterior (also tibialis anterior muscle, anterior tibial muscle, latin: musculus tibialis anterior) is a long, narrow muscle located in the anterior region of the lower leg.

The tibialis anterior originates from the lateral condyle and the upper two-thirds of the lateral surface of the tibia. The tibialis anterior inserts onto the medial cuneiform and the first metatarsal bone.

The main functions of the tibialis anterior are extension, supination and adduction of the foot.
