Superior thyroid vein
The superior thyroid vein (Latin: vena thyroidea superior) is a blood vessel that originates from the glandular venous plexus of the thyroid.
The superior thyroid vein emerges from the superior part of the thyroid, ascends along the lateral border of the thyroid to the carotid sheath and drains into the internal jugular vein.
The main tributaries of the superior thyroid vein are:
- superior laryngeal vein,
- cricothyroid vein.
