The stylohyoid (also stylohyoid muscle, latin: musculus stylohyoideus) is a neck muscle stretching between the base of skull and the hyoid bone, thus belonging to the suprahyoid muscles of the neck.
The origin site of the stylohyoid is the styloid process of the temporal bone.
The stylohyoid inserts on the lesser horn of the hyoid bone.
The stylohyoid pulls the hyoid bone backward and upward.
The innervation of the stylohyoid is provided by the stylohyoid branch of the facial nerve (CN VII).
