The pelvis is the part of the body located between the abdomen and lower extremities. It can refer to the pelvic skeleton (or pelvic girdle), which is the skeleton embedded in the lower part of the trunk, between the abdomen and thighs.
The pelvic skeleton is composed of the sacrum and the coccyx, and a pair of hip bones. Each hip bone consists of three bones: ilium, ischium, and pubis.
The greater pelvis is the space between the two wings of the ilium above the terminal line, while the lesser pelvis is the part of the pelvis below the terminal line.
