Palpebral part of orbicularis oculi

  • The palpebral part of the orbicularis oculi (latin: pars palpebralis musculi orbicularis oculi) is a part of the orbicularis oculi muscle that lies within the upper and lower eyelids.

    Origin

    The palpebral part of the orbicularis oculi arises from the medial palpebral ligament.

    Insertion

    The fibers of the palpebral part of the orbicularis oculi insert into the lateral palpebral ligament.

    Action

    Upon activation the palpebral part of the orbicularis oculi closes the eyelids.

    Innervation

    The palpebral part of the orbicularis oculi is innervated by the temporal branch and the zygomatic branch of the facial nerve (CN VII).
