Orbital part of orbicularis oculi

  • The orbital part of the orbicularis oculi (latin: pars orbitalis musculi orbicularis oculi) is a part of the orbicularis oculi muscle that lies circulary around the orbital opening.

The orbital part of the orbicularis oculi originates from the medial palpebral ligament. Its fibers run around the orbital opening and insert in the origin site.

Contractions of the orbital part of the orbicularis oculi narrow the space between the eyelids.

The orbital part of the orbicularis oculi is innervated by the temporal branch and the zygomatic branch of the facial nerve (CN VII).
