• The omohyoid (also omohyoid muscle, latin: musculus omohyoideus) is a neck muscle that belongs to the infrahyoid muscle group and depresses the hyoid bone.

The omohyoid has an inferior and a superior belly connected by an intermediate tendon.

The omohyoid originates from the upper border of the scapula.

The omohyoid inserts onto the inferior part of the body of the hyoid bone.

Upon activation the omohyoid depresses the hyoid bone and the larynx, it also carries the hyoid bone backward and to the side.

The omohyoid is innervated by the anterior rami of the 1st to 3rd cervical spinal nerves (C1 - C3) of the ansa cervicalis arising from the cervical plexus.
