Lateral tarsal artery

  • The lateral tarsal artery (latin: arteria tarsalis lateralis) is a branch of the dorsalis pedis artery.

This artery arises at the level of the talus, then runs an arched course laterally below the extensor hallucis brevis and extensor digitorum brevis muscles. At the level of the base of the fifth metatarsal bone the lateral tarsal artery anastomoses with the arcuate artery.

The lateral tarsal artery supplies the adjoining muscles, lateral side of the foot.
