Inferior thyroid vein

  • The inferior thyroid vein (latin: vena thyroidea inferior) is a blood vessel that arises from the unpaired thyroid plexus (latin: plexus thyroideus impar).

The inferior thyroid vein descends to join the brachiocephalic vein.

The main tributaries of the inferior thyroid vein are:

    • esophageal vein,
    • tracheal vein,
    • inferior laryngeal veins.

The inferior thyroid vein drains blood from the inferior parts of the thyroid gland, larynx, trachea, and esophagus.
