Gemellus superior

  • The gemellus superior (also superior gemellus, superior gemellus muscle, gemellus superior muscle, latin: musculus gemellus superior) is a small triangular shaped muscle of the posterior muscle group of the pelvic girdle.

The gemellus superior originates from the spine of the ischium. The gemellus superior inserts on the trochanteric fossa of the femur.

The main function of the superior gemellus is the external rotation of the femur.
