Gemellus inferior

  • The gemellus inferior (also inferior gemellus, inferior gemellus muscle, gemellus inferior muscle, latin: musculus gemellus inferior)  is a muscle of the posterior muscle group of the pelvic girdle.

    Origin

    The gemellus inferior originates from the ischial tuberosity.

    Insertion

    The gemellus inferior inserts on the trochanteric fossa of the femur.

    Action

    The main function of the inferior gemellus is the external rotation of the femur.

    Innervation

    The gemellus inferior is innervated by the muscular branches of the sacral plexus.
